शरीर तथा सल्लेखना का सत्यार्थ-बोध The Truth about the Body and its Dispassionate Abandonment (sallekhanā)
This article is a compilation of excerpts from the Jaina Scripture on the subject of the human body and its dispassionate abandonment – called sallekhanā – at the end of life.
One should consciously refrain from mistaking the body for the soul. The transformations in the body – stages like childhood, youth, old age, and destruction – do not pertain to the soul. Death should be considered as just a change of clothes.
By no means can the body be protected from destruction; the insistence on protecting it is futile. The body is repugnant, foul-smelling, perishable, and a source of anxiety and, therefore, it is futile to have attachment towards it.
At the time of his death, the yogī wishes that he remains capable of uttering the letters constituting the pious name of Lord Jina. Further, he considers his soul to be one, without infatuation, pure, all-knowing, and capable of being known by the Master Ascetics. All attachments, internal and external, are utterly foreign to its nature.

यह कृति बेटी के नाम गुरूवर का संदेश के माध्यम से गुरूवर ने अपना संदेश, सुझाव, अनुभव, शिक्षा सभी बेटियों को देने का प्रयास किया है। यह कृति गुरूवर ने अपने सम्पर्क में आने वाली बेटियों के अनुभव एवं आजकल जो शिक्षा की दौड़ में मात्र नौकरी का लक्ष्य बनाकर होने वाली पढ़ाई से समाज की बहिन-बेटियों में किस प्रकार मर्यादा, संस्कार एवं संस्कृति का पतन हो रहा है, और उससे उन बेटियों का जीवन भी किस प्रकार अंधकारमय हो जाता है। यह सब बातें इस पुस्तक में बहुत अच्छी तरह समझायी गयी हैं।
ऐसी ही एक बेटी जब अपनी समस्या लेकर गुरूवर के पास आती है, और गुरू जी कितनी अच्छी तरह सटीक उदाहरण देकर उस बेटी की सभी बातों का समाधान करते हैं, जिससे उस बेटी के विचारों में और जीवन में बहुत अधिक परिर्वतन आ जाता है।
गुरूजी ने जो उदाहरण देकर उस बेटी के विकल्पों का समाधान किया है उन समाधानों को इस पुस्तक के माध्यम से पढ़कर मैं समझता हूँ हर एक बेटी के जीवन में अवश्य ही परिवर्तन आयेगा। क्योंकि, जो समस्या और विकल्प उस बेटी के मन में चल रहे थे, वह विकल्प आज-कल हर एक युवा बेटी के मन में आ रहे हैं।
यह पुस्तक किसने लिखी, और इसकी क्या कीमत है। इस बात को ध्यान में न रखकर, हर एक बहिन बेटी और उसके माता-पिता इस पुस्तक को अवश्य पढ़ें और अपने बहुमूल्य जीवन को संभालने का प्रयास करें। इसी भावना के साथ........।
